Morocco advances air force modernization with US technology

Morocco is advancing its aerial defense capabilities through several modernization programs involving American defense contractors. L3Harris Technologies has completed production of the first 35 Viper Shield electronic warfare systems, which are designed for F-16 Block 70/72 fighters to detect and manage electromagnetic threats in real time. Morocco is among eight allied nations slated to receive these systems.

In parallel, the Royal Moroccan Air Force is upgrading its C-130 transport fleet. Maintenance and structural repairs, including the installation of digital engine data systems, have commenced at a specialized facility in Waco, Texas. Some aircraft are scheduled for comprehensive electronic system overhauls, including full digital cockpits.

To support the integration of 25 new F-16C/D Block 72 fighters, the United States has awarded CAE Inc. a contract worth up to $42.10 million. This contract will provide two full-mission trainers to help Moroccan pilots build proficiency in advanced air combat and precision strikes within a high-fidelity simulated environment, reducing the need for live flight hours on frontline aircraft.
