Morocco and Senegal enhance pharmaceutical regulation and oversight

Morocco is strengthening its border controls for imported medicines and health products through a new agreement between the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AMMPS) and the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes (ADII). Signed on October 23, the convention will see pharmacist inspectors deployed to border posts to provide expertise during customs checks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The partnership also includes a computerized data exchange system designed to facilitate information sharing, accelerate import processing, and simplify procedures for pharmaceutical operators.

In Senegal, the Pharmaceutical Regulation Agency (ARP) is transitioning toward the digitalization of drug approval procedures. During a meeting in Dakar on October 23, health ministry officials highlighted that this digital shift aims to increase transparency, improve product traceability, and enhance the overall efficiency of pharmaceutical supervision. The initiative is intended to modernize administrative management in the health sector and combat the circulation of unapproved or substandard medical products by ensuring more rigorous monitoring of registration files.
