Morocco names 1,055‑km highway after Donald Trump

Morocco officially renamed its 1,055‑kilometre Tiznit‑Dakhla expressway the “President Donald J. Trump Highway”. The project, budgeted at roughly €880 million (about $1 billion), was launched in 2015 as part of a development programme for the southern provinces and will link to the Dakhla Atlantic Port, slated to open in 2028. Former U.S. President Donald Trump thanked King Mohammed VI on Truth Social, calling the naming “a great honor” and saying he hopes to travel the entire route soon. The naming follows the United States' December 2020 recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and is presented as a symbol of the strong Morocco‑U.S. diplomatic relationship while the highway is expected to boost transport, trade and economic development across the disputed territory.
