Morocco assures ample sheep and goat supply for Eid Al-Adha 2026

The Moroccan government reported that the national flock of sheep and goats stands between 8 million and 9 million head, comfortably exceeding the typical seasonal demand of 6 million to 7 million head ahead of Eid al‑Adha 2026. Officials said the surplus should help stabilise market prices and ensure sufficient availability for households. The Ministry of Agriculture presented a plan to maintain herd health, noting that 95 % of female animals have been retained and that the National Food Safety Office (ONSSA) rates the overall sanitary condition of the livestock as "good". Enhanced veterinary monitoring and continued coordination with breeders are intended to preserve both quantity and quality of supply for the upcoming holiday.

The government’s optimistic outlook was delivered at a cabinet meeting on 14 May, emphasizing that the national re‑constitution programme has raised the total livestock population to about 40 million head, while favorable weather this year has supported successful breeding cycles.
