Morocco beats Netherlands on penalties to reach World Cup last 16

Morocco advanced to the World Cup round of 16 after a 3‑2 victory on penalties over the Netherlands. The match in Estadio Monterrey finished 1‑1 after regular time, with Cody Gakpo scoring for the Dutch side and Ismaël Saïbari equalising for Morocco.

In the shoot‑out, Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved Crysencio Summerville’s spot‑kick, while striker Ismaël Saïbari converted the decisive penalty. The Netherlands’ keeper Bart Verbruggen had earlier kept his team alive with two spectacular saves, but could not prevent the eventual loss.
