Morocco Celebrates King Mohammed VI's Throne Day Highlighting Reform and Growth

Morocco marked the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s reign on Throne Day, emphasizing the country’s reform agenda and economic progress. Since taking power in July 1999, the king has overseen a series of legislative changes, including the recognition of Amazigh as an official language, reforms of the religious sector, and new laws governing parties, labour, strikes, the press and broadcasting.

Infrastructure projects have expanded, with upgraded highways, high‑speed rail lines, and the development of major ports on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts. The industrial base now leads Africa in aviation and automotive manufacturing, while renewable‑energy investments have turned Morocco into a net exporter of electricity to Spain and France. Security services have also been highlighted for strengthening the nation’s defence against terrorist threats.
