Morocco cement sales decline 1.1% in first eight months of 2026

Morocco's cement sales, a key indicator of construction and public works activity, declined by 1.1% during the first eight months of 2026. This follows a 10.4% increase during the same period the previous year. Despite the overall dip, specific sectors showed growth, including ready-mix concrete, which rose by 6.4%, and infrastructure, which increased by 14.7%.

According to Bank Al-Maghrib, real estate asset transaction volumes rose by 6.3% in the second quarter of 2026, rebounding from a 9.3% decrease in the prior quarter. This growth included a 3.9% increase in residential real estate, a 4.1% rise in land, and a significant 31.9% jump in professional-use real estate. The real estate asset price index also saw a slight increase of 0.7% in the second quarter.

Regarding real estate financing, outstanding mortgage loans grew by 3.9% through the first seven months of 2026, reaching approximately 330.7 billion dirhams. This was driven by a 2.7% increase in housing loans and a 5.9% rise in loans directed toward real estate development.
