Morocco considers troop deployment to Gaza for stabilization force

Morocco is preparing to contribute troops to the proposed International Stabilisation Force (ISF) for Gaza, aimed at maintaining security and supporting post-war stabilization efforts. As a founding contributor, Morocco signed the Declaration of Founding Contributors in February 2026 alongside nations including Albania, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Kosovo.

Plans involve establishing a military outpost in an Israeli-controlled area near the Gaza border to accommodate a rotating Moroccan deployment. While initial building contracts have been issued for approximately 150 troops, earlier projections suggested the facility could eventually expand to support up to 5,000 personnel. The mission is expected to include ceasefire monitoring, police training, civilian protection, and humanitarian operations.

The potential deployment has raised political and operational questions regarding the presence of foreign military personnel in Gaza and how they would coordinate with Israeli forces. Analysts note that Morocco’s involvement would represent a significant role for an Arab and Muslim-majority nation within a security architecture potentially backed by the United States and Israel.
