Morocco deploys troops to Gaza as part of US-backed peace plan

Morocco has become the first Arab and African nation to deploy military personnel as part of an international stabilization force linked to a Gaza peace plan promoted by Donald Trump. While initial projections suggested 500 soldiers for a refugee camp in Rafah, the deployment has been adjusted to 200 troops who will operate under the command of the Israeli army.

The stabilization force is intended to gradually replace Israeli military presence on the ground, allowing Israeli forces to redirect personnel to other fronts as Palestinian disarmament progresses. This move is part of a broader strategic exchange; Morocco's participation is linked to support from the United States and Israel regarding Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.

This strengthening of the Washington-Rabat alliance carries significant implications for European security. Although Morocco is not a member of the European Union, its strategic position and close ties to the United States allow it to influence critical issues for Europe, including migration, terrorism, and stability in the Maghreb.
