Morocco emerges as strategic clean tech hub for Europe
A report by the European Commission identifies Morocco as a strategic industrial hub and a promising leader for clean technology development in the Mediterranean and MENA region. The analysis highlights Morocco’s competitive advantages, including modern infrastructure, geographical proximity to Europe, and strong integration into global value chains.
The country possesses established industrial ecosystems in the automotive, aerospace, and electrical sectors, with specific expertise in solar systems, cables, and electrical equipment. Furthermore, Morocco is rapidly developing its electric mobility and battery value chains. Its extensive phosphate reserves are noted as a strategic asset for producing materials used in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.
To support the green transition, Morocco is investing in green hydrogen and ammonia, facilitating energy integration with Europe. The Tanger Med logistics hub is also cited as a critical factor in connecting Morocco’s industrial platforms to major international markets and attracting foreign investment.
