Morocco expects 70,000 civil servants to retire by 2030

A human resources report accompanying the 2027 draft finance bill indicates that approximately 70,266 civil servants in Morocco are expected to reach the legal retirement age between 2026 and 2030.

The education sector will be most affected, with 28,012 employees set to retire, followed by the Ministry of Interior (15,945), health (5,645), higher education (4,793), economy and finance (2,792), and justice (2,307).

The report highlights that retirements have been the primary driver for the deletion of financial posts, accounting for over 81 percent of such deletions recorded across various sectors between 2016 and 2026. Within this period, the national education sector accounted for 61.9 percent of deleted positions, while the health sector accounted for 12 percent.
