Morocco is entering a critical parliamentary election cycle, with the campaign having officially launched on September 10. The upcoming vote on September 23 will determine the composition of the House of Representatives, where 27 political parties are competing for 395 seats. More than 15.8 million voters are registered to participate in the election.

The election occurs amid a significant crisis of confidence in political institutions. An Afrobarometer survey indicated that only about one-third of Moroccans aged 18 to 35 trust Parliament, the head of government, and political parties. Furthermore, approximately 80 percent of surveyed individuals expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of political parties.

Under the 2011 constitutional framework, the King appoints the head of government from the party that secures the most seats in the House of Representatives. While the election is a major test for political engagement, particularly among the youth, observers note that young Moroccans remain active in political discourse via social media and demonstrations, even if they question the effectiveness of the electoral process in addressing their daily challenges.

Transparency Maroc has also raised concerns regarding political integrity, noting that only four out of twelve political parties responded to inquiries regarding their anti-corruption and transparency measures in their electoral programs.
