Morocco faces rising shipping costs to the United States

Shipping costs for goods traveling from Morocco to the United States are set to increase starting September 15, 2026. The shipping company CMA CGM has implemented a Rate Restoration Initiative, which includes a surcharge of $250 for 20-foot containers and $500 for 40-foot, 40-foot High Cube, and 45-foot formats.

This increase comes as bilateral trade between Morocco and the United States reached $7.39 billion in 2025, with Moroccan exports accounting for $1.86 billion. While the cost hike presents a challenge for Moroccan exporters operating in a competitive environment, the country continues to expand its logistics footprint. The Tanger Med port complex, for instance, handled 11.1 million TEUs in 2025, an 8.4% increase, benefiting from shifts in international maritime routes.
