Morocco heat wave alert: Temperatures to reach 45 degrees

Morocco is facing an impending heat wave, with temperatures expected to reach between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius in several provinces from Tuesday, September 1, to Friday, September 4, 2026. The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange alert for regions including Oued Eddahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Smara, Tata, and Zagora.

Other areas, such as Marrakech, Fez, and Kenitra, are forecasted to experience temperatures ranging from 38 to 42 degrees Celsius. In addition to the heat, some regions may encounter unstable weather, including local thunderstorms that could bring hail and strong winds, with rainfall accumulations of 20 to 25 millimeters expected in certain provinces.

The Société Nationale des Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM) has urged motorists to exercise caution on highways, particularly near Asilah, Rabat, Taza, Casablanca, Beni Mellal, Berrechid, and Agadir. ADM recommends checking tire pressure, coolant levels, and engine oil, as well as taking mandatory breaks every two hours to rest and hydrate.
