Morocco is seeing shifts in its regional tourism and local economic activities. Located between the Rif Mountains and the Mediterranean, the city features a distinct Andalusian architectural influence and a UNESCO-listed medina that reflects its historical ties to Spain.

In the coastal region of El Jadida, a traditional and largely unrecognized economic activity is being carried out by local women. These workers dive into the Atlantic to harvest red algae, which is used in the food and cosmetics industries. This labor-intensive practice represents a specialized local expertise that contributes to the country's economic and cultural identity outside of major sectors like phosphates or tourism.
