Morocco implements residency permit checks for Algerian travelers

New travel directives have reportedly impacted Algerian citizens traveling to Morocco, requiring the verification of a valid Moroccan residency permit prior to boarding flights. While no official public ban has been issued by the Moroccan government, internal documents circulated to airlines suggest that border police have strengthened controls on transit and incoming flights.

These measures are being implemented by various carriers, including Air France and Air Algérie. Reports indicate that Air France has activated alerts within the ALTEA passenger management system to prompt staff to check for valid residency documents for Algerian passengers heading to Morocco.

Because there are currently no direct regular flights between Algeria and Morocco, many travelers rely on indirect routes through third countries such as France or Tunisia. Consequently, these boarding requirements are being applied at the initial point of departure, affecting transit passengers as well. Travelers without a valid residency card risk being denied boarding to avoid the costs and procedures associated with returning passengers to their origin.
