Morocco increases Argentine corn imports by 133%

Morocco has more than doubled its corn imports from Argentina, recording a 133% increase during the first seven months of 2026. Total imports from Argentina reached 1.55 million tons, making Morocco the fastest-growing North African market for Argentine corn.

This shift is driven by a strategic redirection of supply sources following a 52% decline in Ukrainian corn exports. Ukrainian shipments have been hampered by Russian strikes on export facilities in the Odesa region and low water levels in the Danube due to drought and heatwaves.

Additionally, Argentina’s market position has been bolstered by a 20% decrease in corn exports from Brazil, caused by rising domestic consumption in the Brazilian ethanol industry. Morocco’s move reflects a broader effort to diversify grain supplies and ensure food security amidst global market volatility.
