Morocco integrates Amazigh identity into national institutional framework
The integration of the Amazigh language and identity into the Moroccan state has evolved through several key political and institutional milestones. This process began significantly with the Ajdir speech and the 2001 establishment of the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM), which transitioned the Amazigh issue from a matter of social protest to an institutionalized component of the state.
Following the institutionalization in 2001, the 2011 constitutional reforms provided Amazigh with a formal constitutional basis. The progression has continued into the public sphere with the official recognition and celebration of the Amazigh New Year, framing Amazigh identity not as a factional interest, but as a fundamental and unifying element of the collective Moroccan national identity.
