Morocco Justice Minister announces cancellation of 22,000 search warrants

Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi announced the cancellation of 22,315 search warrants related to physical coercion measures. This initiative follows a review of legal statuses in light of new criminal procedure law provisions.

The review targeted individuals who are either under 20 or over 60 years old. Additionally, the ministry halted the enforcement of physical coercion for 3,991 detainees currently in prison. In total, these measures have resolved the legal status of approximately 26,000 people.

Under the new regulations, physical coercion will not be applied for financial amounts totaling less than 8,000 dirhams. To streamline the process, a new electronic platform has been established in coordination with the General Directorate of National Security and the Royal Gendarmerie. This platform allows authorities to view files and settle outstanding amounts without requiring a return to the issuing court, specifically to prevent procedural difficulties for travelers at airports and ports.
