Morocco launches 2026-2027 hunting season to boost sustainable tourism
The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF), in partnership with the Royal Moroccan Hunting Federation (FRMC), officially launched the 2026-2027 hunting season on October 2 in Marrakech. Under the theme ‘Tourist Hunting in Morocco: A Natural Wealth and Sustainable Development,’ the initiative aims to promote the rational management of wildlife and support biodiversity conservation in line with the ‘Forests of Morocco 2020-2030’ strategy.
Officials reported significant growth in the sector. During the previous season, more than 65,000 Moroccan hunters and approximately 5,000 tourists participated. The number of leased hunting blocks increased from 1,278 in 2020-2021 to 1,737 in the 2025-2026 period, with the total leased area expanding from 3.35 million hectares to approximately 4.39 million hectares.
The event also highlighted the expansion of tourist hunting, supported by 146 specialized companies. Discussions focused on diversifying hunting services, including the introduction of bow hunting, to enhance Morocco’s international attractiveness. The launch included the presentation of the publication ‘Gibiers emblématiques du Maroc’ and practical workshops on sustainable hunting practices.
