Morocco investigates allegations of phone espionage against political party
The Prosecutor General at the Casablanca Court of Appeal has ordered a judicial investigation into allegations of phone espionage and hacking targeting members of the Mouvement Populaire (MP) party. The decision follows video statements made by Mohamed Ouzzine, the Secretary-General of the MP, during an election rally in Berrechid.
In the footage, Ouzzine claimed that his party is being targeted by various methods, including the surveillance and hacking of mobile phones, as part of the ongoing campaign for the legislative elections scheduled for September 23. He described these actions as new forms of attacks aimed at political figures.
The investigation has been entrusted to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) to verify the veracity of these claims and determine any necessary legal consequences. The Public Prosecutor's office stated that this move is intended to ensure the proper application of the law and the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
