Morocco: Legal proceedings involving public officials and police

Several legal proceedings involving public officials and law enforcement are currently unfolding in Morocco. In Fez, a senior police inspector has been referred to the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal following allegations of arbitrary actions and violence against a street vendor.

Additionally, the trial of Fez Mayor Abdessalam El Baqqali is set to resume before a new judicial panel. The case involves charges of failing to report a felony, following a decision by the Court of Cassation to overturn a previous ruling. The broader investigation into the management of Fez's finances has previously implicated other local officials.

In Sefrou, the trial of Mustafa Lakhsem, the president of the Imouzzer Kandar commune, has been postponed to November 3. Lakhsem and four others face allegations of mismanagement and embezzlement of public funds related to the administration of temporary workers. The case involves claims that some individuals on the payroll were not actually performing duties for the commune.
