Morocco Ministry of Justice warns employees over professional secrecy

Morocco’s Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, has issued a circular to regional directors and court officials emphasizing strict adherence to professional secrecy. The directive mandates that all justice sector employees protect the confidentiality of information and judicial documents accessed during their duties.

The circular warns that any involvement in leaking judicial files or disclosing sensitive data will result in criminal prosecution and disciplinary measures. It specifically prohibits unauthorized individuals from accessing files and forbids the photographing or unauthorized transmission of legal documents.

While emphasizing confidentiality, the Ministry noted that professional secrecy does not conflict with the right to access information, stating that legal boundaries between the two are clearly defined. The instructions aim to maintain public trust in the judicial system and uphold the integrity of legal proceedings.
