Morocco announces World Cup squad, leaves out star striker En‑Nesyri

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi unveiled the final 26‑player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be held across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The list notably excludes 28‑year‑old striker Youssef En‑Nesyri, who has been a key figure since the 2022 tournament, as well as former Ajax and Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech. Selections include goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (Al Hilal), defenders such as Achraf Hakimi (PSG) and Nayef Aguerd (Marseille), midfielders Samir El Mourabet (Strasbourg) and Sofyan Amrabat (Betis), and forwards Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid) and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli (Betis). Ouahbi stressed the squad's depth, citing a large talent pool and a dedicated medical team to manage fitness and mental freshness, warning of over‑load as a potential risk.

Morocco will compete in Group C with Brazil, Scotland and Haiti, opening their campaign against Brazil on 14 June in New Jersey. The coach expressed "big ambitions" for the tournament, emphasizing the importance of player readiness and collective spirit ahead of the World Cup.
