Morocco natural gas imports rise 15.4% in July

Morocco's natural gas imports saw a significant rebound in July 2026, rising 15.4% to approximately 991 GWh compared to June's 859 GWh. This increase marks the highest monthly import volume for the country since the beginning of the year, following a period of low inflows that bottomed out in April due to regional geopolitical tensions.

Despite the monthly surge, year-on-year figures remain largely stable, as July 2025 imports were recorded at 992 GWh. For the first seven months of 2026, total imports reached 4.98 TWh, representing a 13.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.

Morocco relies on various sources for liquefied natural gas (LNG), including the United States and Russia, and maintains a contract with Shell signed in 2023. The gas is typically regasified in Spain before being transported to Morocco via the Maghreb-Europe pipeline.
