Morocco presents 2027 draft budget focused on social support

Morocco's Minister of Economy and Finance, Fawzi Lekjaa, has presented the 2027 draft finance bill, outlining a strategy to bolster purchasing power and social protection. The government plans to increase total spending to 825 billion dirhams, targeting an economic growth rate of 3.7%.

Key social measures include a gradual increase in minimum direct social support from 500 to 1,000 dirhams by the end of the current term. Additionally, the government intends to cover monthly electricity bills for households with consumption not exceeding 100 dirhams. To support the middle class, the draft proposes income tax reforms, including exempting monthly net salaries below 10,000 dirhams starting in January 2027 and raising the tax-free income threshold from 40,000 to 60,000 dirhams.

The budget also allocates 19.4 billion dirhams to the compensation fund to support the prices of butane gas, sugar, and national flour. In terms of defense, the ceiling for financial commitments for the National Defense Administration has been raised to 190.5 billion dirhams to support military equipment procurement and the development of the national defense industry. The plan also includes the creation of 34,454 new budgetary positions across various sectors, including the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health.
