Morocco receives first batch of Chinese locomotives for rail modernization
Morocco's National Railways Office (ONCF) has officially commissioned five new diesel locomotives manufactured by the Chinese company CRRC Ziyang. The delivery, completed within a seven-month timeframe despite transport challenges, represents the first installment of a program designed to strengthen the national railway fleet.
The arrival of this new equipment is part of a broader strategy to modernize Morocco's transport infrastructure and meet increasing mobility demands. These upgrades are specifically aimed at preparing the country's logistics and rail networks for major international events, most notably the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
A commissioning ceremony was held at the ONCF headquarters, attended by Chinese Ambassador Yu Jinsong, ONCF Director General Mohammed Rabie Khlie, and CRRC Ziyang Chairman Chen Zhixin. Officials noted that the project serves as a significant example of infrastructure cooperation between Morocco and China.
