Water management and infrastructure prioritized in regional budget planning

Various regions are prioritizing water infrastructure and resource management in upcoming fiscal planning and project handovers.

In Morocco, local authorities in the Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Marrakech-Safi, and Béni Mellal-Khénifra regions are urging municipalities to reassess their 2027 budgets. Due to intensifying water stress, officials are recommending that elected representatives cut non-essential spending and redirect funds toward securing water supplies and maintaining essential infrastructure.

In Madagascar, regional budget conferences in Mahajanga have identified access to potable water and electricity as top priorities for the 2027 finance law. The discussions aim to align regional development plans with the fundamental needs of citizens and the private sector.

In South Africa, the Department of Water and Sanitation is completing several infrastructure projects in Limpopo. These include the Seshego Water Treatment Works, the Jakkalskei Water Supply Scheme, and two additional schemes in the Blouberg Local Municipality. These projects, funded through various government grants, are designed to improve reliable water provision for tens of thousands of households across the province.
