Morocco reports improved payment delays and lower card fees

Morocco is seeing improvements in payment timelines and shifts in monetary transaction costs. According to the sixth annual report from the Observatoire des Délais de Paiement, average payment delays for public procurement have decreased from 18 days in 2024 to 16.2 days in 2025, well below the legal limit of 60 days. In the private sector, client payment delays dropped to 98 days of turnover, while supplier payment delays stood at 70 days of purchases.

In the banking sector, Bank Al-Maghrib has announced that starting October 1, 2026, the cap on interchange fees for domestic card payments will be reduced from 0.65% to 0.50%. Additionally, a specific cap of 0.15% will apply to government payments and local proximity commerce. This move follows the opening of the electronic payment acquisition market and aims to lower costs for merchants and encourage electronic payment adoption.
