Morocco reports rise in trademark and patent filings for H1 2026

The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) reported a rise in intellectual property filings during the first half of 2026. Trademark applications reached 16,911, marking a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Leading sectors for trademark deposits include the chemical industry (hygiene and detergents) and advertising and business management services, each accounting for 20% of total filings, followed by pharmaceuticals at 16%.

Industrial design registrations also saw growth, with 3,510 designs recorded, a 9% increase from the previous year. Packaging designs led this category at 40%, followed by construction materials at 22%.

Patent applications rose by 7% to a total of 1,557. The pharmaceutical sector dominated patent filings at 25%, with biotechnology and organic fine chemistry each contributing 12%. Regarding the types of applicants, Moroccan universities played a central role, representing 47% of all deposits, followed by individuals at 33% and companies at 17%.
