Morocco: Rights groups demand economic plan for women
The Federation of Women's Rights Associations has presented a series of social, economic, and legislative demands to the government of Fatima Zahra Mansouri. A primary goal is to increase the economic activity rate of women to at least 30 percent by the 2030-2031 period. The federation is calling for concrete measures within the 2027 finance law to ensure women benefit from employment, investment, and social protection programs.
To achieve these goals, the rights group emphasizes the need to remove barriers to employment, particularly in rural areas, and to provide female entrepreneurs with better access to financing, real estate, and public contracts. They also highlighted the necessity of expanding childcare services and recognizing the economic value of unpaid domestic and care work.
On the legislative front, the federation is advocating for the completion of the Family Code reform and stronger mechanisms to protect women from all forms of violence, including digital and political violence. Additionally, they are calling for increased powers for the Ministry of Family, Social Development, and Equality to coordinate and monitor government policies.
