Morocco signs pact to protect national cultural heritage

The General Directorate for National Security and the National Foundation of Museums have signed a partnership agreement in Rabat to protect Morocco’s cultural and museum heritage. The agreement, signed by Abdellatif Hammouchi and Mehdi Qotbi, aims to combat theft, forgery, and the illicit trafficking of antiquities and artworks.

Key components of the partnership include establishing institutional mechanisms to ensure the physical security of national museums and providing security coverage for the transport of archaeological assets. The two entities will also collaborate on capacity building and specialized training to better identify criminal methods used in the counterfeiting and smuggling of historical artifacts.

Additionally, the National Foundation of Museums will provide technical support to enrich the National Security Museum, helping to preserve the country’s institutional and security memory.
