Morocco strengthens critical risk governance, OECD reports

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has highlighted Morocco's progress in strengthening its governance and anticipation of critical risks. In its report, ‘Tracking Progress in the Governance of Critical Risks’, the OECD notes that Morocco is among the countries making institutional reforms to follow recommendations regarding risk management.

A key development cited is the establishment of a Chief Risk Officer position within Morocco's Ministry of the Interior. This role is designed to coordinate disaster risk management efforts across various administrations and government levels. The position is supported by expert teams tasked with analyzing critical risks to help prioritize investments in management capabilities.

Additionally, Morocco is working on the development of a national risk observatory intended to aggregate data on hazards from multiple scientific organizations. The OECD recognizes that Morocco has maintained sustained follow-up on recommendations resulting from previous peer reviews conducted since 2017.
