Morocco to establish 2 billion dirham fund for Amazigh language

The Moroccan government has announced plans to accelerate the official status of the Amazigh language through a dedicated financial framework. As part of the government program, a special account will be established under the Presidency of the Government, with a total budget of 2 billion dirhams allocated for the period between 2027 and 2031. For the year 2027, an initial 400 million dirhams has been earmarked.

This new fund aims to provide an independent financial structure to support the integration of Amazigh into public administration, education, the judiciary, media, and public signage. This move separates Amazigh funding from the previous ‘Fund for the Modernization of Public Administration and Support for Digital Transition,’ which previously bundled language support with digital reforms.

In addition to the financial allocation, the government intends to activate a permanent ministerial committee under the Presidency of the Government. This committee will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the language's official status across various sectors and will publish an annual report featuring coverage indicators and progress metrics.
