Morocco to host $1.2 billion Nexus AI Factory project
Nexus Core Systems is launching a major artificial intelligence infrastructure project in Morocco, with an initial investment of $1.2 billion. The project, known as the Nexus AI Factory, will be located outside Casablanca and is designed to utilize NVIDIA Blackwell accelerated computing technology.
According to reports from NVIDIA, the project aims for a planned capacity of up to 500 megawatts. The facility will leverage renewable energy provided by TAQA Morocco to support high-performance computing tasks, such as training and deploying AI models. This initiative seeks to reduce Africa's reliance on digital infrastructure located outside the continent.
The development is being coordinated with several Moroccan government entities, including the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE).
The project will be implemented in phases. The first phase, located in the Nouaceur pole, involves an investment of 5 billion dirhams with a 16-megawatt capacity. The second phase involves an additional 7 billion dirhams for a site in northern Morocco with a 20-megawatt capacity. By the end of 2027, the initial phases are expected to reach a total capacity of 36 megawatts and create 125 direct jobs.
