Morocco tourist transport sector faces bankruptcy risk
Two professional organizations, the Moroccan Organization for Tourist Transport and the Democratic Organization of Tourist Transport Professionals, have warned that Morocco's tourist transport sector is facing a risk of bankruptcy. During a joint press conference in Casablanca, the groups highlighted a paradox where the national tourism industry is booming—noting 19.8 million visitors and 138 billion dirhams in revenue in 2025—while transport companies struggle with severe financial instability.
The organizations cited rising fuel prices, high vehicle acquisition and maintenance costs, insurance expenses, and financing burdens as primary drivers of the crisis. They also noted challenges such as seasonal activity fluctuations, delayed payments, and complex administrative procedures for fleet renewal.
The groups have issued an urgent call to the incoming government, led by Fatima Zahra Mansouri, to implement a national rescue and reform plan. They emphasize that protecting these businesses and preserving jobs is essential to meeting Morocco's major tourism goals for 2030.
