Morris Alper's ConlangCrafter AI Creates Full Constructed Languages

U.S. linguist and computer scientist Morris Alper, a Ph.D. graduate of Tel Aviv University now serving as an assistant professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Miami, has unveiled an artificial‑intelligence model called ConlangCrafter. The system generates complete constructed languages by first establishing phonological rules, grammar and syntax, then producing coherent words and sentences, a process Alper says yields results that are more varied and internally consistent than those from general‑purpose models such as ChatGPT or Gemini.

ConlangCrafter is intended for creative industries—film, video games and literature that use fictional languages—as well as for linguistic research, especially for documenting and studying endangered or poorly described languages. The team notes that evaluating the model’s creative output remains challenging, as objective metrics for language invention are still lacking.
