Morris County lakes see two paddle boarding drownings
Two separate paddle boarding accidents resulted in drownings at Morris County lakes over the weekend.
In the first incident at Tilcon Lake in Allamuchy Mountain State Park, a 24-year-old man drowned on Saturday after falling into the water while with a group of adults. Because paddle boarding is prohibited on this lake, the area has been temporarily closed to all use. His body was recovered on Sunday morning.
In a second incident at Hopatcong State Park in Roxbury Township, a 41-year-old man was found dead in the water on Sunday. Bystanders reported seeing an unattended paddleboard around 2:30 p.m., prompting a multi-agency search. Authorities believe the man was paddle boarding in an area not monitored by lifeguards. The New Jersey State Police and State Park Police are investigating, though no foul play is suspected.
