Morrissey petitions Spanish PM to ban bullfighting on Spain tour
Steven Patrick Morrissey is touring Spain on his "Make‑up is a lie" tour, with scheduled concerts in Barcelona and Madrid. Ahead of the shows he sent a letter to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez asking for a nationwide ban on bullfighting.
Morrissey has a long‑standing record of concert cancellations – about 360 since 1991, which the Spanish press says represents roughly 25‑40 % of his yearly performances. The reasons cited include health problems, personal issues, travel difficulties and concerns about venue safety. His first Spanish cancellation occurred at the Benicàssim festival in 2004 when a flight problem forced him to return to England; he later resumed the festival two years later.
