Morro do Careca: Tourists filmed on restricted summit in Natal
Monitoring cameras captured four tourists walking on the summit of Morro do Careca in Ponta Negra, Natal, this past Sunday. The group was seen emerging from a forested area around 1:30 p.m., crossing the sand, and heading toward the hill.
Access to the top of Morro do Careca has been prohibited since the 1990s to protect the vegetation and preserve the environmentally protected area. Despite existing signage, visitors continue to enter the restricted zone. Some tourists have reported being unaware of the prohibition or cited a lack of guidance at the site.
Frequent visitors have expressed concern regarding the lack of permanent surveillance. Although the area attracts thousands of tourists, particularly on weekends, there is no continuous presence of police or municipal guards to provide orientation or enforce environmental regulations.
