Morsø Kommune protests proposed psychiatric bed closures in North Jutland
Morsø Kommune has issued an open letter to the North Jutland Regional Council expressing concern over the proposed closure of psychiatric departments in Thisted and Frederikshavn.
The plan involves relocating 32 psychiatric beds, with 16 patients from each location potentially being moved to facilities such as the psychiatric department in Brønderslev. This proposal follows a decision by Danske Regioner to phase out long-term vacancies within the psychiatry sector.
Morsø Kommune warns that the relocation could create significant geographic inequality in healthcare. If the beds in Thisted are moved, patients from Mors may face travel distances exceeding 100 kilometers each way. The municipality also noted that because admission to the N8 Thy-Mors psychiatric ward is voluntary, the increased distance might lead vulnerable citizens to delay or forgo necessary treatment.
