Mortal Kombat 2 Streams on HBO Max with New Cast Additions
The sequel to the 2021 live‑action adaptation, Mortal Kombat 2, has premiered on the HBO Max streaming service. Directed by Simon McQuoid, the film follows the champions of Earthrealm as they confront Shao Kahn’s tyrannical rule, with Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) joining the fight alongside returning characters such as Cole Young, Sonya Blade and Liu Kang.
New characters include Kitana, portrayed by Adeline Rudolph, as well as Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Sindel (Ana Thu Nguyen) and Baraka (CJ Bloomfield). The movie is available at no extra cost to HBO Max subscribers and supports Dolby Atmos, 4K UHD and Dolby Vision. Critical response has improved over the first film, with Rotten Tomatoes scores rising to 64 % from critics and 87 % from audiences, and an IMDb rating of 6.4.
The release follows a successful theatrical run for the 2026 sequel, which set HBO Max’s opening‑week record for a film launch. The streaming debut expands the franchise’s global reach, with coverage in markets such as Brazil and Kazakhstan.
