Mortal Shell 2, the ambitious sequel from developer Cold Symmetry, has launched to positive critical reception. Reviewers have noted it is a significant evolution from its predecessor, offering a larger, more interconnected world and a more fluid combat system that removes traditional stamina constraints.

The game features a deep customization system through Tarstones and various Shells, which allow for diverse playstyles. Some players have also identified environmental Easter eggs, including a level design that closely mirrors the opening map of the classic game DOOM.

In a unique meta-commentary feature, the game interacts with players' Steam accounts. Near the end of the game, players encounter stone tablets that display text referencing their most-played titles, such as Destiny 2, Elden Ring, or Baldur’s Gate 3, effectively breaking the fourth wall by commenting on their gaming habits.
