Morten Hjulmand draws interest from Manchester City and Arsenal
Danish international midfielder Morten Hjulmand, currently with Sporting CP, is being pursued by Premier League clubs Manchester City and Arsenal. Both clubs have been reported to be in negotiations as Sporting prepares to lower his €80 million release clause, with estimates that the fee could fall to around €40 million.
Hjulmand, 27, joined Sporting in 2023 from Lecce for about £18 million and has made 142 appearances, scoring 10 goals from a defensive‑midfield role. He impressed in the Champions League semi‑final against Arsenal but criticised the English side’s tactics, calling their play “boring” and “stop‑start.” Other suitors mentioned include AC Milan and Manchester United, though the Portuguese club appears focused on the English offers.
Sporting’s willingness to accept less than the release clause value could facilitate a move in the upcoming summer transfer window, potentially strengthening the midfield of either Manchester City or Arsenal.
