Mortgage fraudster Adam Francis receives suspended sentence in UK

Adam Francis, 48, of Rowan Rise, Barnton, Cheshire, posed as a mortgage adviser under the name “Mortgage Man”. Between February 2017 and August 2018 he and a now‑deceased accountant persuaded four people seeking mortgages to hand over deposits, charges and solicitor fees totalling more than £203,000. They used forged documents and contacted legitimate estate agents and solicitors to create the appearance of genuine transactions.

After the victims learned from their solicitors that no mortgage progress had been made, the scheme was reported to Cheshire Police. Francis pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud by false representation. At Chester Crown Court on 24 July 2026 he was sentenced to 25 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity.
