Dutch housing market: regulatory shifts and mortgage hikes (30 clusters)
Mortgage rate hikes raise monthly costs and cut borrowing power for Dutch homebuyers
Around 25 Dutch mortgage lenders are raising their rates this week as capital‑market interest rates have surged. Financial advisers forecast that rates could climb by about 0.5 percentage points within a month. The increase would add several hundred euros to borrowers’ monthly payments and substantially reduce the amount they can borrow for a house purchase.
The higher financing costs are expected to tighten lending capacity for prospective homebuyers across the Netherlands, potentially slowing demand in the housing market.
