Mortsel authorities increase traffic enforcement for cyclists
The local government of Mortsel and the Minos police zone have announced increased traffic enforcement and awareness campaigns following the start of the new school year. The initiative specifically targets cyclists riding against the direction of traffic, a violation that authorities say creates dangerous situations for motorists, pedestrians, and other cyclists.
Through the campaign ‘Jij bent toch geen spookrijder?’ (Are you not a wrong-way rider?), officials aim to sensitize the public to the risks of improper cycling behavior. Violators face a fine of 74.67 euros. To assist with compliance, the local administration plans to improve signage indicating where one-way or two-way cycling is permitted.
