Ukraine targets Russian energy and tech infrastructure with drone strikes
Ukraine has intensified its long-distance drone campaign, targeting critical Russian energy and technology infrastructure. Ukrainian forces struck the Omsk oil refinery in Siberia, a major facility managed by Gazpromneft that supplies fuel to the Russian military.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian drones targeted the digital infrastructure of Yandex, a major Russian technology company. Strikes hit a data hub in the Ryazan region and a data center in the Kaluga region, the latter of which was partially disabled. Yandex reported that the attacks struck the core of its operations, affecting services used by many Russians.
In Russia, drone and balloon activity caused significant disruptions in Moscow, leading to temporary restrictions or closures at four major airports: Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky. Moscow officials reported that air defense systems intercepted 15 drones targeting the capital.
Meanwhile, Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities have caused significant civilian casualties. Reports indicate multiple deaths in areas including Zaporizhzhia and Priluki, with some strikes hitting residential buildings.
