Moscow's Saint Basil's Cathedral Fire Contained

A fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday at the Cathedral of Saint Basil the Blessed on Red Square in Moscow. The blaze started in the director's office on the first floor, igniting personal items and furniture and covering roughly 10 square metres. About ten fire‑engine crews were dispatched and the flames were brought under control quickly, with no injuries reported.

Russian emergency services said the fire was fully extinguished and that investigations into the cause are ongoing. The cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Russia’s most recognizable symbols, suffered no reported structural damage to its iconic multicoloured domes.

The incident was reported by the state news agency TASS and confirmed by local authorities, emphasizing that the cultural monument remains intact and open to visitors.
