Moses Itauma prepares for comeback after IBF title loss

Heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma is preparing for a comeback early next year following his first professional defeat against Filip Hrgovic. During their recent IBF heavyweight title fight, Itauma dominated the early rounds with superior speed and power, including a second-round knockdown, but ultimately ran out of stamina and was stopped in the ninth round.

Promoter Frank Warren stated that “serious changes” must be made to Itauma’s approach before his return. Warren noted that the 21-year-old is already back in the gym and that discussions with his team will focus on addressing the tactical and physical shortcomings exposed during the bout.

Former boxer George Groves criticized Itauma’s performance, labeling him a “three-round fighter.” Groves argued that Itauma’s failure to manage distance and his tendency to throw maximum-leverage power punches from the opening bell led to premature exhaustion. While Itauma’s explosive offense was effective early on, the Croatian veteran Hrgovic was able to absorb the initial pressure and secure the vacant IBF title.
